Bulletin! Vote on SB 1437 Delayed!
April 17, 2006
The floor vote has been postponed on SB 1437, the bill before the
California Senate that would require sexual indoctrination and promote
gender confusion in our public schools by mainstreaming homosexuality,
bi-sexuality and transgenderism in all coursework and reading materials.
It now appears that this vote could come on Thursday, April 20th.
Now is the time to keep the pressure on!
We had to send out the original alert (below) over this past busy
holiday (and tax filing deadline!) weekend and we know that many people
probably have not had a chance to respond or to forward it on.
If you have not yet sent an e-mail to our senators opposing SB 1437
and the other two bad bills listed in the alert, PLEASE
DO SO RIGHT NOW BY CLICKING HERE! It takes just a few
minutes.
Also, if you have not forwarded our last alert on to others because
you thought there was not enough time before the vote, PLEASE

Extremely Urgent!
April 15, 2006
SB 1437 to be voted on the Senate Floor this Monday, April
17th!
This bill will mainstream homosexuality and alternative
sexual orientations and lifestyles in our public schools, turning
them into institutions of that will engage in sexual indoctrination
rather than education.
See the summary below for more details.
(A recent change to this bill would require children to study
the contributions of homosexuals to society. Just as today
they learn about the positive contributions of both men and women,
African Americans, Mexicans and other cultural and ethnic groups,
if SB 1437 passes our school children would learn the positive contributions
"people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender"
have made to California and the United States. School lessons would
no longer be the same!)

Urgent Alert!
SB 1437 Passes Senate Judiciary Committee!!
Help Stop Value Confusion and Sexual Indoctrination
In our Public Schools NOW!
Action Urged
Send
an e-mail immediately to all California state senators urging them to
oppose SB 1437, and two equally alarming bills now in the Senate. All
of these bills would effectively mandate and mainstream a homosexual focus
in our school curriculum and create gender confusion among many public
school students. You can easily send a suggested e-mail to all
state senators with just the click of your mouse through the special feature
set up on our Web
site. It takes just two minutes.
Brief Background
On Tuesday, April 4, SB 1437 passed out of the Senate Judiciary
Committee. It is one of three very shocking bills (the other
two are AB 606 and AB 1056, both of which have already passed the Assembly)
that are making their way though the California Legislature. For
the first time, these bills will require by law that, among other things,
our children's class work and curriculum must present homosexuality
as normal and equal to heterosexuality and teach them that gender is not
physically-determined but is merely a "social construct" that
an individual can change at will. A summary of these three bills
is provided below.
While there is clearly a vigorous debate occurring in our society on
these and related issues, these bills would prohibit that debate from
even being part of our children's education. Instead, if
these bills pass, those individuals and interest groups that advocate
these radical sexual orientations and minority views on norms and values
will have free reign to push their social and sexual agenda unchallenged
in our schools. This will directly undermine the traditional
values and norms held by the majority in our society, norms and values
which many parents are seeking to instill in their children.
The result will be the our schools will be converted into institutions
of sexual indoctrination of our children, not educational institutions.
It is completely inappropriate for our legislature to pass legislation
like this that presents only these radical and minority views and imposes
this sexual indoctrination on our children.
Our children are not orphans or wards of the state. We, as parents,
must be the ones decide what their social and sexual education should
be. In addition, by substituting indoctrination for education,
these bills will mandate by law that the schools must totally ignore the
findings of the social and medical sciences. For example, we know from
this research that being raised by both a father and a mother is essential
to the best interests of children. We know that homosexual behavior is
highly risky and results in a shorter average life expectancy. Yet, if
these bills pass, schools would essentially be prohibited from presenting
well documented research and other factual information like this.
Please contact our state senators and let them know that parents
count, that our values count and that it is not the role of the schools
to indoctrinate students on these controversial issues or impose the norms
and values of social minorities.
We are all in this together and I can guarantee that unless enough of
us take action these bills will become law. It is up to us to protect
our children from those in the legislature and others in our society who
would force their agenda on our children.
These bills pose very serious threats. Please
contact your senators today!! Also, please forward this alert
on to your friends, family and others here in California and urge them
to help us stop these potentially damaging laws.
Thank you for whatever you can do to help!
Sincerely,

Meredith Richey

Brief Summary and Analysis of
the Bills
SB 1437 - Changes the State Education code "relating to
prohibited instruction" and adds a radical sexual orientation indoctrination
program
This bill would prohibit schools from doing anything that can in any
way be considered as adversely reflecting on any individual based on their
perceived "gender" or "sexual orientation." Included
would be any curriculum, text books or school sponsored activities. The
term "gender" is defined as "real or perceived"
and "sexual orientation" is not well defined. As a result,
the schools would be forced to teach school children that all forms of
sexual behavior are normal and acceptable, that gender is not important
in raising children, that all forms of "family" are equal
and that gender is not physically defined but merely a "social construct."
This will not only undermine the prevailing norms and values of society
generally but also the values and religious teaching many parents are
attempting to instill in their children.
Status: Passed the Senate Judiciary committee
April 4th and is headed for the Senate Floor. Text of the bill here.
AB 606 - Forces school districts to include curriculum,
textbooks or other materials that accept, embrace and advocate homosexuality
or risk losing state money.
This bill would require local school districts to develop, implement
and enforce a policy that prohibits any type of discrimination or harassment
against any individual based on an individuals "actual or perceived
gender identity" or their sexual orientation. The determination
of how well schools are following the law is left to the total discretion
of the State Superintendent of Schools who can withhold all or part of
a school district's state funding if he does not believe they are
in compliance with the law. The bill will also require that all school
children are given material depicting homosexuality as normal. The requirements
are so broad and the compliance is so subjective that this law will inevitably
lead to indoctrination of all California school children that there is
no difference between the sexes and that any sexual behavior is equally
normal and acceptable, directly undermining the norms and values of society
and many parents.
Status: Passed the Assembly and in the
Senate Committee. Text of the bill here.
AB 1056 - $250,000 of state money will be directed to "Tolerance
Education" pilot programs in Science/Social Science classes, while
adding "sexual orientation and "perceived characteristics"
to the tolerance list.
This bill, which has already passed the Assembly, would establish a pilot
program in California schools to "supplement instruction"
with "tolerance education." While United Families California
believes in treating all with kindness and tolerance, in this approach,
tolerance is reduced to unquestioningly accepting virtually any characteristic
or behavior of any individual. Values are thrown to the wind. In doing
so, it undermines many of the traditional teachings that society and parents
are attempting to instill in children and discourages critical thinking
and decision making.
Status: Passed the Assembly and in the
Senate Committee. Text of the bill here.
