Urgent Alert!

Help Stop SB 1437, the Homosexual Indoctrination Bill
Now in the Assembly!

Keep Pressure on the Governor to Veto It!

Meredeth Richey, President, United Families CaliforniaThe Situation:

SB 1437 passed the Senate several weeks ago and is now before the Assembly. It has now been assigned to the Education Committee there and hearings are expected soon. It could go to a vote in the full Assembly within the next several weeks.

This very bad bill would mandate that our public schools indoctrinate our children that homosexuality, bi-sexuality and transgenderism are normal and acceptable behaviors and lifestyles. (See more detailed summary below)

Even though it passed the Senate by a 22-15 vote, we are making progress in our efforts to stop this outrageous legislation. United Families California has spoken to the Governor’s office and, while we are encouraged (see #2 below), it is clear to us that additional pressure needs to be applied. As more and more parents and grandparents learn what this bill will do to their children and grandchildren, they are making their opposition known to their elected representatives and to the Governor.

WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE! LET’S KEEP IT UP!

Please help by:

  1. Even if you have already contacted our Senators through our Web site, please contact the Assembly. We have set up a special feature (LINK to Web site) that allows you to e-mail all of the Assembly members who have e-mail addresses and urge them to oppose SB 1437. You can send a suggested message to all of them with just a single click of you mouse. Click here.
  2. You can also send a message to Governor Schwarzenegger urging him to veto the bill if it does get to his desk. (LINK to the Web site.) IMPORTANT: Despite some reports that the Governor has announced that he would veto this bill, in fact it is clear to us based on our conversations with his staff that he has not decided yet to do that. SO IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT WE ALSO URGE HIM TO VETO SB 1437! You can easily also send him an e-mail through our Web site. It takes just a minute. Click here.
  3. Help spread the word to others. The more people who understand what this bill would do, the more likely we can defeat it. You can easily help spread the word by forwarding this alert on to others on your address list. You can also use a special feature on our Web site where you can send a suggested message to them inviting them to come to our Web site and also e-mail their Assembly members and the Governor.

PLEASE ACT TODAY!

Background and Analysis

Summary of SB 1437

SB 1437 - Changes the State Education code "relating to prohibited instruction" and adds a radical sexual orientation indoctrination program

This bill would prohibit schools from doing anything that can in any way be considered as adversely reflecting on any individual based on their perceived "gender" or "sexual orientation." Included would be any curriculum, text books or school sponsored activities. The term "gender" is defined as "real or perceived" and "sexual orientation" is not well defined. As a result, the schools would be forced to teach school children that all forms of sexual behavior are normal and acceptable, that gender is not important in raising children, that all forms of "family" are equal and that gender is not physically defined but merely a "social construct." This will not only undermine the prevailing norms and values of society generally but also the values and religious teaching many parents are attempting to instill in their children.

What this bill would do:

If SB 1437 passes, the result will be that our schools will be converted into institutions of sexual indoctrination of our children, not educational institutions. There is no way of knowing how broadly the courts or school administrations would interpret the legal requirement in this bill that nothing the school teachers or sponsors can “reflect adversely” on any homosexual, bi-sexual or transgender person,. However, it is certain that there will be no presentation of the essential facts about the health and other risks related to these behaviors and lifestyles.

For example, we know from social science research that being raised by both a father and a mother is essential to the best interests of children. We know that homosexual behavior is highly risky and results in a much shorter average life expectancy. Yet, if these bills pass, schools would essentially be prohibited from presenting well documented research and other factual information like this.

It is completely inappropriate for our legislature to pass legislation like this that presents only these radical and minority views and imposes this sexual indoctrination on our children. Certainly, the legislature should not be micro-managing the curriculum by requiring that textbooks and lessons highlight the sexual behaviors of key figures in California and United States history as this bill would require.

Our children are not orphans or wards of the state. We, as parents, must be the ones decide what their social and sexual education should be.

The only way we can protect our children and the integrity of the educational process is to defeat SB 1437.
