Urgent Alert!

SB 1437 Going to the Governor,

Please Urge Him to Veto It!

Meredeth Richey, President, United Families CaliforniaDear Friend of the Family,

SB 1437, the bill that will promote the sexual indoctrination of California school children to accept homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism as acceptable and normal lifestyle and behavior choices, has passed the Assembly on a 46 to 31 vote.

All Democrats voted for the bill, except Nicole Parra of Bakersfield who voted against it and Juan Arambula of Fresno and Ed Chavez of La Puente who did not vote. All Republicans voted against the bill except for Keith Richman of Northridge who voted for it. (See below for the complete list).

Because of the tremendous pressure from pro-family Californians like you, (thousands of you e-mailed the legislature through our Web site alone!) the sponsor of this bill Sen. Kuehl, was forced to amend it to take out the requirement that textbooks and other instructional material had to portray a positive image of these behaviors and lifestyles. But the requirement remains that textbooks and other materials cannot "reflect adversely" on these behaviors and lifestyles.

This would mean in practice that the schools would become instruments to indoctrinate our children that homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism are acceptable because the many health and other negative aspects of these behaviors and lifestyles could not be presented, nor could there even be any balanced discussion of them.

It is important to note that the supporters of this bill have made it clear that their intent really is to indoctrinate our school children. As Assembly Speaker Nunez bragged during the floor debate, the purpose of this bill is to "outlaw" the traditional perspectives on marriage and the family in our schools. That is what this bill will do and that is why we must demand that Governor Schwarzenegger veto it.

After another routine vote in the Senate (because it was amended in the Assembly) it will go to Governor Schwarzenegger.

OUR ONLY HOPE OF STOPPING THIS BILL IS A VETO BY THE GOVERNOR

Your URGENT action needed!

Please take the following actions immediately.

  1. Contact Governor Schwarzenegger and urge him to veto the bill. While his staff has suggested that he might do so, there is no firm commitment. If possible call him at 916-445-2841 and leave a message urging him to veto it.
  2. If you prefer, you can use the special feature on our Web site to send him a suggested e-mail message, which you can also modify as you wish. Click here.

  3. Help us spread the word to other Californian residents who may not be aware of the dangers posed by this bill and who will also contact the governor. An easy way to do this is to forward this alert on to others on your list.
  4. If you prefer, you can also use the special feature we have set up on our Web site to send a suggested e-mail message to them which you can also edit as you wish. Click here.

  5. Consider making a tax deductible contribution to help us stop this and other destructive bills. All contributions made to United Families International through our California Web site will go entirely to support our efforts in California.

Please act today!
