IMPORTANT REMINDER!

Since the legislature ended just before the long holiday weekend we know that many of you probably missed this urgent alert we sent out last week. It deals with three particularly harmful bills, SB 1437, AB 606 and AB 1056, now on Governor Schwarzenegger's desk.

If you are concerned about the integrity of public education in California and about preventing our schools from indoctrinating our kids to accept homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism as normal and acceptable lifestyles and behaviors, please urge the governor to veto these bills. It is easy to do by simply following the suggestions in the alert below. It takes just a couple of minutes and it is so important to protecting our children!

Time is short. The governor could make his decision on these bills at any time.

Thanks!

Urgent!

Alarming Bills Now on Governor's Desk!

Last Chance to Stop Three Bills
That Would Harm Our Kids!

Meredeth Richey, President, United Families CaliforniaDear Friend of the Family,

The California legislature concluded its session yesterday and, as expected, passed and sent on to the governor a number of bills that would harm our children if they become law. Three of these bills, SB 1437, AB 606 and AB 1056, are especially damaging. These bills would all further indoctrinate California school children to accept homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism as normal and acceptable lifestyles and behaviors. (A brief summary of each bill is included below.)

The only chance now to prevent these bills from becoming law is if the governor vetoes them. We are urgently requesting that you call and/or e-mail him immediately and ask him to veto all three of these bills! EVEN IF YOU HAVE CONTACTED THE GOVERNOR ALREADY ON ONE OR MORE OF THESE BILLS, PLEASE CONTACT HIM AGAIN AND EXPRESS YOUR OPPOSITION TO ALL THREE!

Please take the following actions:

  1. Contact Governor Schwarzenegger and urge him to veto these bills. If possible call him at 916-445-2841 and leave a recorded message. You can do this anytime of the day or night. State your name and address so he will know you are a constituent, mention the bills by number and briefly say why your are opposed to them, such as that it is not appropriate for the schools to be indoctrinating our kids in this way.

If you prefer, you can also use the special feature on our Web site to send him a suggested e-mail message, which you can also modify as you wish. Click here.
  2. Help us spread the word to other California residents who may not be aware of the dangers posed by theses bills and who will also contact the governor. An easy way to do this is to forward this alert on to others on your list.

Or, if you prefer, you can also use the special feature we have set up on our Web site to send a suggested e-mail message to them which you can also edit as you wish. Click here.

  3. Consider making a tax deductible contribution to help us stop these damaging bills. All contributions made to United Families International through our California Web site will go entirely to support our efforts in California.

Please act today!

Brief Description of SB 1437, AB 606 and AB 1056

SB 1437 would prohibit schools from providing any instruction or participating in any activity that would "reflect adversely" on anyone based on their sexual orientation. The result will be that only "positive" references would be made to homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism, thereby indoctrinating students into viewing these behaviors and lifestyles are normal and acceptable.

AB 606 would authorize the Superintendent of Public Instruction to withhold state education funding from any school district that is not implementing a state mandated policy to prevent "discrimination and harassment based on specified characteristics, including, but not limited to, actual or perceived gender identity and sexual orientation." It further requires the Superintendent to develop this policy and, by giving him the power to withhold a district's funding, also effectively gives him the power to force all school districts to accept and implement it.

AB 1056 would divert $250,000 in scarce education dollars to promote homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism as normal and acceptable behaviors and lifestyles under the guise of tolerance education.
