September 6, 2006 Important Update! Governor Vetoes SB 1437! Keep
the Pressure Up on AB 606 and AB 1056 by Emailing Now!
Responding to the increasing pressure and growing outrage of tens of thousands of Californians, Governor Schwarzenegger today vetoed SB 1437. This is a great victory and I want to thank the thousands of you who e-mailed the governor through our Web site and called in response to our alerts. YOU made all the difference! However, we still have to keep the pressure up on two other very dangerous bills also on the governor's desk, AB 606 and AB 1056 In the guise of teaching "tolerance" and "preventing harassment" these bills would also require our schools to indoctrinate our school children to accept homosexuality, bi-sexuality and transgenderism as normal and acceptable behaviors and lifestyles. (See brief summary below) Only a veto by the governor will prevent them from becoming law. Please take the following actions immediately:
Time is very short. The governor could decide whether or not to veto these bills at any time. Please act today! Brief Description of AB 606 and AB 1056 AB 606 would authorize the Superintendent of Public Instruction to withhold state education funding from any school district that is not implementing a state mandated policy to prevent "discrimination and harassment based on specified characteristics, including, but not limited to, actual or perceived gender identity and sexual orientation." It further requires the Superintendent to develop this policy and, by giving him the power to withhold a district's funding, also effectively gives him the power to force all school districts to accept and implement it. AB 1056 would divert $250,000 in scarce education dollars to promote homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism as normal and acceptable behaviors and lifestyles under the guise of tolerance education.
