September 29, 2006 Governor VETOS Anti-family Bills!! YOU Made the Difference!
Thursday, in response to a flood of demands by California parents, Governor Schwarzenegger once again stood up for parental rights by responsibly vetoing two more outrageous anti-family bills, AB 606 and AB 1056. These bills, along with SB 1437, which he vetoed several weeks ago, have been troubling parents since early in the 2006 legislative session. The good news is spreading quickly around the state among anxious parents and those who have been following these dangerous bills. These bills would have required our schools to indoctrinate our children into believing that homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism are normal and acceptable lifestyles and behaviors. Thousands of concerned citizens not only e-mailed the governor through our United Families California Web site, but thousands more across the state also called the governor's office to express their concern. THANK YOU! You and thousands of other concerned Californians made all the difference! The first bill to go down was SB 1437 and it was so bad that it gained national notoriety. When parents learned that the provisions of this bill prohibited any instruction that "reflected adversely" on transgender, bisexual or homosexual persons without regard for facts, the governor's office was besieged with calls, e-mails and faxes. He got the message! Almost as bad was AB 606, which removed state funding from local school districts unless they adopted policies, changed publications and provided information on training, curricula and other resources specific to sexual orientation and gender identity. The third bill, AB 1056, paid schools $25,000 each to encourage their students to embrace homosexuality, gender confusion, and other "groups that have been... systematically and historically marginalized." AB 1056 would also have strongly encouraged participating schools to bring in so-called "civil rights" organizations like the ACLU and pro-homosexual advocacy organizations. We are extremely grateful to the many thousands of parents and responsible citizens who took the time out of their busy schedules to call, e-mail or fax the legislators and the governor over the last few months concerning these awful bills. This is your victory! It is because of your efforts that our children will be able to attend class without fear of intimidation of their values or indoctrination by the state. We know we will have to fight similar legislation (and no doubt even worse) in the next session of the legislature. But until then, we can all enjoy this huge victory!
