Appeals Court Stands Up for
This court case came as a result of fallout from San Francisco’s runaway Mayor, in his attempt to force same-sex "marriage" upon California. In the 128 page opinion the judges noted, "We conclude California's historical definition of marriage does not deprive individuals of a vested fundamental right or discriminate against a suspect class." The court emphasized that the power to define marriage in a democratic society “rests in the people and their elected representatives,” not in the courts. As expected the decision will most likely be appealed to the State Supreme Court and we can expect their decision sometime next spring. United Families California will continue to keep you informed on this issue. We believe that we the people ought to be able to decide what is right and wrong for society when it comes to the fundamental institutions of family and marriage. The reference to “elected representatives” will no doubt stir up our renegade state legislators. Here is the opportunity for YOU to make a difference. This November, many local state Assembly members will be running for office. Be sure you know what their position is regarding marriage between a man and a woman. In the years ahead these “elected representatives” will be the ones to either protect, or tear down traditional marriage. The citizens can make the difference. The ball is in our court. What a great opportunity. Seize the moment! For those who would like a more detailed analysis of the Court of Appeals decision, the United Families California website will post a legal analysis in the coming days.
